Just to add my experience of calling The Police when my husband's behaviour got out of control. My husband has Bipolar, was drunk and started screaming gibberish and throwing furniture round the room. We weren't, at the time engaged with mental health services as his key worker was still trying to convince us and the Psychologist that he didn't have manic episodes just "a break from depression", however this "break" caused him to be delusional and to become aggressive.
So, when he had another break from depression and his behaviour was scary and uncontrollable, I had no one to call but The Police, who handcuffed him, arrested him and stuck him in a cell for 14 hours. I explained the situation fully to them but they treated him like a criminal and refused to give him his meds on time or to call a Psychiatrist. They insisted on calling a social worker to "explain everything to him" as he obviously wouldn't understand being mentally ill. It was a horrible experience for both of us, I found the attitude of The Police, shocking and dangerous.
However, I did tell my husband that although I was really sorry that I had been forced to do that, I would do the same thing again if he behaved that way in the future.
Do you know he never has
