For issues specific to caring for someone with dementia.
Thank you for replying. How do you go about finding a carers support worker?
Unfortunately not every local authority has a standard way of doing things. In my area, Hampshire, the local authority in effect sub contracts carers services to an organisation called Carers Together, and also what used to be the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. This sounds a bit odd, but it works really well. So ring Social Services in your area and ask what they can offer. Maybe they have a website so you can find out online.
No idea if these of any use but read them through and then you can decide yourself.
The Carers and Disability Information centre provides information about many aspects of Caring and Disability.

Although this next link is for an activity group, they may know of local services that can support you.

Ellen, I didn't notice you lived in Fareham! Carers Together in Romsey cover the whole county of Hampshire. They do a quarterly magazine, full of information about what's going on in each area. Janet Chiercha, who runs CT, has an MBE for her work. Recently, I went to a Carers Week meeting with SSD, held in Eastleigh. They do all sorts of events, trips out etc. when the carer and caree can come together, boat trips, train rides, picnics, Pamper Days. The best way of finding out what is going on is to ask someone who has already "been there".
