Jury service

S had been called to do jury service for the coroner! He doesn't have the capacity for this. I will send off the paperwork asking for him to be excused on the grounds he doesn't have sufficient capacity.

Anyone else have experience of this?

Yes, I just sent them a letter saying what would have to be put in place for this to happen and was promptly excused. :D

Let's hope S has the same sensible response.

My son was called to jury service several years ago. I was at the airport on my way somewhere when I got a text message from him and I had to ring his then social worker and ask her to deal with it. She did, he was exempted and hasn't been called up since.

Hope S has no further trouble.

I sent off the form explaining he couldn't do it, but haven't heard back yet. Our social worker is only interested in ticking boxes.

Melly, I would give them a call. There should have been contact details for the court and a number you can call? I certainly wouldn't rely on a SW for this, easier to do it yourself.

Hi, I filled in and sent the form off myself explaining why S can't do jury service. I still haven't heard back. I will have to chase this up in half term. Unfortunately, I can't find the original accompanying letter with the contact details etc on,

Hi all, I recontacted the coroners office re S's summons to jury service, as still hadn't heard back and didn't want either of us to be in trouble over it. After asking for me to hold the line, whilst they went through a huge pile of paperwork , (their words, not mine) they found his details and yes, that was fine. Evidently they hadn't let me know as they didn't have our phone number! (But had our address and email details .... :? )

Oh dear, that's a bit rubbish that they didn't get back to you about it, but glad that it has been cleared up now!
