There was already a plan in place so that tributes could be done on Monday, but no.10 put pressure on the Speaker to recall parliament. I hope someone will do a question after to find out the costs of doing that rather than waiting. How do they justify a special recall of parliament (to do her justice I don't think MT would have approved),
which is meant to be for a national emergency. Parliament spent 45 minutes on tributes when Churchill died, 7 hours for Margaret Thatcher. Maybe it's what happens when you have a PR man as PM. I notice he tried for his 'soundbite' with 'patriot PM',
like Tony Blair and 'the people's princess'.
I think Cameron's motivation was to keep the media buzz going as it puts the tories on the front page, reminiscing about their 'good times' is better than having stories about benefit cuts and bedroom tax. Any dissention can be dismissed as tasteless.
I admire Glenda Jackson for standing up to it, good speech.
