Today I spent 39 minutes and 17 seconds holding on to get through to the dept dealing with ESA for my daughter. I also tried to contact them via the website. No luck on either so I gave up.
Every year I am asked to provide evidence of how much savings she has and I do it immediately and return it straight away in the envelope provided. Countless times they tell me they have not received it and I have several copies of letters in her file where I have written to them a second time resending the amounts. Sometimes I have managed to get through after a long wait only to be told “oh we have got it now. No problem.”

They send a letter telling you they haven’t received it and giving you just a couple of days to do so. Our printer is broken so I just wrote a sharp reply on the form saying they were posted on 7/10
And listing the amounts of savings again and saying I am fed up with this happening.

There is no way on this earth either her or her partner could contend with this as they both have very poor literacy skills and neither would they handle messages like “press 1 if you are a Swiss National” and “Press 2 if you are waiting for a decision.” Etc.

Sometimes I send these things Signed For but that’s extra expense and it means an extra trip to the Post Office which is on reduced hours anyway and is never open when I need it.

What happens when we are unable to handle things or we pass away? Anybody know because this is worrying me. Same with their Universal Credit claim, I have to do all that for them.
Hi Penny,
The council should have a "Client Affairs Team".
I know Hampshire has one, but they keep very quiet about it because it costs them money to run!
If anyone has over about £3,000 they will apply to the Court of Protection for Guardianship.

Don’t really understand this Bowlingbun but thanks. Our council can’t even organise direct payments or send clear statements so I don’t think I would trust them to organise her financial affairs.
It's an entirely separate team at HQ, nothing to do with the local team.

Having spoken to the person in charge, she sounded the most knowledgeable person I've probably ever spoken to in the County.

From me, that's really saying something, usually I say they couldn't organise a party in a brewery!!

It would take a huge amount of pressure off me if I asked them to take over, because they TELL the care providers what to do, and make sure they do it properly, submit details on time etc.

Sadly, they won't ensure the providers do this for me, as appointee.

Some years ago, I was on the verge of getting a standard form and system used throughout the County, dealing with the man in charge of LD.
Then he disappeared off the scene, and was later convicted of having a lot of indecent photos of children!
