using computer and the Internet

Socialise and chat about other areas of your life
I would be lost without the internet;

- it means I can have cyber social contact and support at any hour and it fits around caring
- I can cyber shop (thank goodness, as S can't cope with the sensory overload in supermarkets and my arthritis makes pushing and steering a supermarket trolley painful.)
- surfing the internet and Youtube keeps S occupied for awhile
- information is readily available
I don't do FB, twitter etc but I value my forums (especially this one,) keep in email contact with family and friends and use Skype occasionally. I would be lost without it. It doesn't replace meeting up with friends face to face, but I'm limited when I can do that, whereas I can use the internet anytime.

I love keeping in touch on Facebook with old school friends, researching 3 family trees, the Internet keeps me well entertained especially through the winter months!
I am new to this so if I have done it wrong I apologise. Sue
Hi Sue, I used to spend hours doing the family tree. Furthest back I managed to get was about 1600 in Yorkshire. My grandmother's maiden name was Wright, it was a huge family!

Hi BB
I did my tree to- long ago and mostly pre internet but it has been fascinating adding flesh to the bones" and sharing info with people I would never have made contact with but for the internet. I got back to pre 1700 in the midlands.
Family Tree Research certainly puts our modern day moans into perspective. Most of our carees would not have lived long enough to be "cared for" for very long in those days and possibly ended up in the workhouse.
I have one ancestor who seemed to be present at all the family births and deaths but I doubt she got paid a penny for it. Family stuck together in those days.
On one of the family tree's i have got back to 1680, luckily my late grandmother has 2 old relatives still alive who have given me info and picture's. It helps to pass the time.
I live with my elderly parent's, one who has suffered 2 strokes over the years and one who is getting very forgetful.
I was advised to join carers uk, to talk to people in similar situations.
A bit nervous about this at the moment. Sue
Don't be nervous Sue, it's always good to have a new member of the gang!
Thank you bowlingbun. :D
I'd be lost without my 'poota'. Although I learnt about Computers and the Internet when I was working, I never got round to buying a laptop until 4 years ago and I'd wouldnt be without it.
I was an IT trainer for about 4 years and some people were very 'afraid' of computers and the Internet. The biggest fear for many people was and still is 'hitting/pressing the wrong key' and damaging or losing information etc.
I'm glad I've got my laptop (Tosh to his friends!) and it enables me to keep in touch with friends, family and of course Carers UK

I went to adult computer classes about 9 years ago, I'm not frightened of the computer or doing things wrong. I have just joined carersuk and a bit nervous of using this, that's all. I enjoy chatting to friends, family and new people. Sue
