With most of the kids broken up from school.....

What are some of your school holiday memories??

Heading down to our caravan in Bournemouth ....is definitely one of mine. Always had picnics in the New Forest....walked along by the sea....and if the weather was nice enough actually got to sit on the beach....

Let me know yours....may even get a mention on Radio Wey!!!

Me and my best friend used to go on long bike rides, take drinks and crisps and be out all day.
We had no mobile phones then, so always had a few 10p's to phone home if needed!

Pretty much the same for me.......except I've got a feeling that we had old pennies to make the phone calls!! Put the penny in Slot A, push button B when call is answered. And in those stone age days, you could use a police box to make a call in an emergency (probably a lot of people have only ever seen a police box on Dr. Who), and can't say how many times I reversed the charges to home when I'd missed the last train home as a teenager. Blimey, look how old I am, no wonder I feel like a decrepid old has-been Image

My Parents worked really hard and didn't drink or smoke but there was never any money left over so I didn't have a holiday until I was 16 and my dad hired a caravanette and we went to the New Forest.

School holidays were spent on the marshes and creeks where we lived and we were like mud larks. Image we used to go off in the morning, take some sandwiches and squash and come home at tea time. It was great and we had such freedom. We just jumped creeks and swam all day. We used to show off to holidaymakers by covering ourselves in thick brown mud and diving off the quayside. I can smell that mud as I'm typing this.

When we were about 13 we used to cycle several miles and go strawberry picking. We used the money we earned to go on the travelling fair. We used to get terrible sunburn and this was before suntan lotion was available. We just plastered on Calomine Lotion after we'd burnt. It was agony. No wonder I've had skin cancer as an adult.

We were packed off to an aunt & Uncle in Westward Ho! every year for the long summer holiday. They ran a B&B just off the main road through the town, so once we'd done our chores (helped make the beds, washing up etc) we were packed off for the day with a packed lunch and sixpence (5p) spending money and told not to come back till teatime ! Wonderful days playing on the beach and 'pebble ridge' or exploring The Tors behind the town with the local kids Image

I remember long, sunny days (although it must have rained sometimes ? Image Image ). I also remember my Aunt teaching me how to 'stroke' a bee Image; and painting seashells with her nail varnishes or just laying in the sun watching the ants busy in the garden.

And it was in Westward Ho! that I got my first kiss Image - Aunt was producer/director of the local 'summer show' and we'd help out backstage - can't remember his name but he was tall and had red hair Image Image

Didn't have a care in the world in those days Image
