Quite extraordinary! I genuinely didn't realise what I was looking at!

I won't say more or I'll spoil it for others!

WHAT a lot of work!!

One of the modern artists I like is the chap that wraps up buildings and things like that - I know it's 'daft' but I do like it. I think he's the same chap that runs through the Saraha with huge silk banners, and got all the skyscrapers facing the Hudson River in New York to pattern their lights at night so that they spelt out something like Happy Christmas!

I like tht kind of 'ephemeral' art - because even if it's an eyesore (as, sigh, so much art is!!!!), it's only a for a short while, and then it's gone again.

But some modern art isn't an eyesore at all. I love the Angel of the North, and the statues in the water at Crosby. (Hope he doesn't do the silly giant white horse, however - just seems to look plastic to my mind!)

Of course, how much some modern art is actually 'worth' is highly contentious! Some is just daft, like Tracey Emin, but in a way I admire her ability to screw money out of idiots (EXCEPT when the 'idiot' is a museum funded by the tax payers!!!!!!)
PS - I've just thought - If Scally is looking for a controversial subject for our 'leisure hours' here (!), that the mods will permit, then how about:

Is Modern Art All Just Rubbish? (!!!!!)

Since the answer really doesn't matter, maybe the mods would be happy to let us go hammer and tongs over it!!!!

:) :) :)
How really weird. The two posts above are by me, Jenny.

Have I been hacked?!

No Jenny, you haven't been hacked - it's happened once or twice to other members  It's a forum glitch and I'll get Kate to check it out.
Is the Old Bodger one of those Geordies we aren't supposed to mention?

Ah, I thought it was odd, as the posts screamed "Jenny" to me in their style, but the name was wrong! How weird!

Agree with much of what you say re modern "art" but I guess a lot of artists are more interested in provoking a reaction and controversy than creating something beautiful (although beauty is a very subjective thing really).

The human art pieces in the clip are amazing! So clever and what a lot of work for something that won't be permanent - the artist must have a real passion for his work to make so much effort.
There's always been controversy over "modern" art, bearing in mind that when Van Gogh was alive, no one would buy his work from him.
