Why are people so selfish when the fire bell goes off?.

Last night I was in a cinema and the fire bell went off.
A large group of women stopped when they got to the shelter which covered the exit.
We were stuck inside and a few of us shouted move and people then had to push them out of the way to exit the building.
They seemed to be just concerned about getting their hair spoilt and were not bothered that hundreds of people could have burnt to death.
They were not very pleased when they were shoved.

It seems to be the way of the world these days. The "Im all right Jack" and "Me first" attitude seems to be coming far more prevalent. Image
I suspect that we're no more, or less, selfish than we've ever been. I suspect that the same cinema would've behaved the same but for different reasons 30 years ago; but with the same result.
Not the same thing but just as annoying, when people stop at the top of an elevator trying to decide which way to go!!!
So bl**dy annoying as everyone else is stacking up behind them!! Image Image
A nurse I used to work with was on call when the fire alarm went off and did her duty outside in the car park of the hospital as patients, staff and visitors were ushered outside. Beryl came across an elderly couple and sat them down on one of the few benches. 20 minutes later when the hospital was declared safe Beryl went to help them back inside. The dear old lady thanked her but said it was ok but they were actually on their way home when she gave them the seat! Image True story!

yes that sounds about right ,par for the course from the nasty party.
Hi David

I do on occasions get surprised how stupid people are.
When the Kings Cross fire happened I told people not to get on to the escalator.
They ignored me and died as a result.
All I can say is I did warn them. It was their own fault.

George - That dosen't surprise me mate. I could just imagine you doing that.
But to expect thanks from a tory government? Just look what they did to the miners and steel workers!! Image
hi brian ,that was a couple of years before i went to london. can't say i liked travelling by tube ,they would not let me take my motorbike on for a start Image .
i once hired a bike in hammersmith W6,while my bike was being repaired in walthamstow,E17,i used the bike all day then tried to use the tube to get to E17 ,i let about 3 or 4 go past because they were so packed ,by the time i got to the bike shop it was shut so i had to pick it up the next morning.
