Hello, I am a carer for Hugh my husband, he is over 65 and disabled. He cant work, and is partially sighted, has chronic on going Osteo-arthritis of the spine, knees & hips & is deaf. Sadly we have a front south facing conservatory a timber one, which is past its sell by date. Does anyone know if hubby would be VAT free? As Hubby adore s his plants. And its his main hobby. We are getting quotes for a replacement conservatory. I am feeling gutted by this. But if anyone could please point us in the right direction. There is no harm in asking. Thank-you Regards Amandah Image Image Image
My only experience of the VAT free was buying a recliner chair for Dad. Had to sign a form saying it was for his sole use and the vat wasn`t charged.

When buying our sofa and recliner chair last year the chair which was for hubby`s sole use was VAT free, the sofa wasn`t, although it came from the same company and matches each other.

I keep expecting the chair police to visit.

Not sure how it works with buildings, but all you can do is ask a few builders.xx
Ask the Inland Revenue for a booklet on the subject - I had a copy when we were doing some work here. I think it's only for things like toilets and baths. I have a beautiful conservatory BUT I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. Like you, I had a wooden version, 27ft long, full of plants in winter. We ordered the new one in April, then there were minor adjustments after the surveyor called. We had to take the old one date by the end of August, I'd explained that I had Australian friends coming to stay in October and it MUST be finished by then. Well it was finally fitted in December, the whole house was chaos when my friends visited, and all my plants died. My order had got "lost" in the system, then there were further delays. My complaints fell on deaf ears. You will love a new all weather conservatory, but don't, whatever you do, get one from

Have you tried ringing your county council cause if he's classed as disabled and if the conservator could fall down and you may get some advice or a grant to replace it, i'm only saying cause our kitchen leaked and they got someone to fix it as i couldn't afford to do it, just can't think of what department it was, as it was a long time ago, and they may not do it know, but you could ask,
Hello I am looking into all the avenues of getting quotes. I dont think that the council will help. Thank-you anyway regards amandah
