Ian54 looking after father 93. Want to know how others feel about young carers future.how can we all support teenagers 14/19 who are full time carers.should they look after parents(ie my age54) for the rest of my life(could go on another 30 years)me personally I think men/women nearing old age should put their kids first(no kids of my own).i don’t want for any young man/women to end up in my postion? What’s the solution? I’ve never had much of a life really(should older people going into care/home/residential sooner than later! Or iam I just passing the buck. Ian 54

In theory, everyone should have a STAND ALONE Needs Assessment, i.e. an assessment of all needs, regardless of whether or not family members are around.
Social Services don't and won't do this, they try to intimidate and brain wash people into doing it.
I now realise my life was ruined by the assumption that my husband and I would be able to not only run a business but look after our four elderly parents, all living nearby, our son with severe learning difficulties, and still keep well. Even when I was so ill I couldn't do my own shopping, SSD and the NHS both tried to bully me to care for mum after she had been in hospital for five months!! When I refused, they sent me to Coventry!
Until Needs Assessments are done properly, there is no hope for family members.
