Pet,

As the others have said, yoga is excellent for core strength, mobility, lowering stress, blood pressure etc but does nothing for flab! You need cardio for that, something to raise the heartbeat. My yoga teacher is 72 and the eldest in our class is 81 so you are just a youngster! Have a look at the British Wheel of Yoga website and search for a teacher in your area. That is how I found my class and you will be assured of a good standard of teacher.

Good luck,
Anne

I've always preferred Yoga to PIlates but recently got into Pilates after an NHS short course of 3 with their physio team. The physio said I had great flexibility.I do have a really good Pilates teacher.
These days with flab and post hysterectomy, I really struggle with basic yoga- can't so shoulder stand, can't stand on one leg, wobble around too much so was trying to strengthen inner core hence the pilates. I would love to get back to yoga. I am reducing my working hours soon so hopefully could try some yoga at home. I keep buying books and books but never have the time.
I've never been into circuot training or high impact stuff but needs must---- :( Actualy to be honest, I slept better than for ages last night.

I'm a self confessed comfort eater, but I've lost over half a stone since Christmas thanks to a wretched bug which gave me bronchitis and took away my appetite! I'm trying hard not to eat as much now I'm slightly better, I'd really love to fit into a size smaller trousers this summer, but I can't stand anything tight round my waist after major surgery. The current trousers are too big everywhere apart from the waist.

Overweight people need to increase their oxygen intake. This can be done by deep breathing so that the lungs are expanded. Diets for weight loss are pure nonsense.

Oh David. Not demeaning your theory but I wish it was just that!
Yesterday I was at a friend's helping her with a little job. Her neighbour brought doughnuts round. Lovely and fresh. I should have said no thank-you. Should have but didn't. That's why I struggle.

The consumption of cream doughnuts will make no difference nor will fats or sugary drinks and cakes. If your blood is properly oxygenated then everything you eat will be processed and excessive weight gain will not happen.

David, I don't think that even those people who post on the internet that deep breathing and oxygen therapy help you to lose weight believe that eating cream doughnuts has no effect. I think the idea is that if you get enough oxygen in the blood, you won't want to each so much. There hasn't been any proof it works, of course.

I need to join this, i havve done both slimming world and weightwatchers years ago and lost weight but stopped going and of course it went straight back on
In an ideal world i would want to lose 3 stone but in reality i will aim for 1 stone to start with.
Not going to any groups just weighing myself at home amnd watching what i eat.
Good luck everybody
Do we post a daily diary of what we eat?
I am going to weigh myself once a week, so do people post their weight losses on here as well?
Jane

Hi Jane
Welcome. No rules at all on this thread. Do whatever helps you. I lost most weight by going to a weekly weigh in class so publication can keep you on track.

These days I prefer to go on clothes fit. I have a belt on my jeans and if it gets tight I try to watch what I eat until it's comfortable again.

I hoped having the flu would help but 12 days now of sedentary sofa life and zero exercise means I'm about neutral on the weight loss front :(

I started SW last June and in total have lost just one stone 5 lbs. I always lose weight very slowly. I have had the most stressful few months with my elderly mum who has gone into care and we've had loads of related family problems so one weekend I lost 4.5 lbs as I literally couldn't eat! Over the next few weeks I put that back on though as things settled down again.

I know it's not much but at least I'm that much lighter than I was this time last year.

I have recently started Aquafit once a week but I am absolutely ravenous when I get home so I think one cancels out the other!!
