I married at 19 and went from being Miss to Mrs. It is, after all, the shortened form of "Mistress". I cannot stand Ms. What does it mean???
Anyone who keeps calling me Mrs."X" I ask to address me by the shortened form of my first name, just 4 letters, much less of a mouthful. My surname is a bit unusual and often gets remarks. (I have a friend Mrs. Allcock who used to live at "Willy's Well"!
I can't stand people who address me as "Madam or Ma'am".
Call centres are the worst culprits for that, especially in the Philippines. I say "please don't call me that, I don't run a brothel!"
Then there are the people who ring up and ask to speak to me using the long form, which I really cannot stand either. It's a dead give away identifying people who don't know me at all! I only use my full name when booking flights or dealing with the HSBC. One teller really didn't like me paying in cheques in the shortened form but fortunately she soon left.
My Barclays business bank account even used the shortened form of my first name.
