For anybody, but especially Chris From The Gulag: Red ice burgs... I couldn't resist even if I can't do images inline.

When I see photos like these they make me wonder about those that need extra help, elderly, disabled etc. I know some have strong knit communities, but even so there has to be times when help needed but not accessible.

Image a cold winter over here.

Snow upto a foot deep.

One careworker snowbound ... 10 elderly people needing a daily visit.

All on prepayment meters fast approaching empty. Most bed ridden , the remainder in wheelchairs.

Perhaps even oil or propane gas heating , supply running low due to severe temperature and / or freezing point of both ... even a cracked pipe between the tank and the dwelling.

Throw in an ex miner with oxygen mask and bottle ... bottle needs changing by the end of the day.

Money on kitchen table for the careworker to top up as part of her duties together with sufficient for a couple of days food ... all down to their last pizza slice.

....... and the snow continues to fall as does the temperature ....

Scale those figures up and return to the winter of 1962 - 1963.

Began snowing at lunchtime on boxing day in London , finally disappeared on either 22nd. or 23rd. April.

#######################################################################

Rhetorical question .... how do countries with harsher winters than ours cope ... published winter deaths tend to be lower than ours ... after adjusting for population sizes ?

I finally worked out how to add google images to threads. My method is a bit more convoluted than your one, but I got there in the end.

Bare Rock Sinkhole, Canada

From, I think, the same web site you may have got this piece of Alian looking Canadian landscape from.

Cabin & Basin, Alberta, Canada

It worked :woohoo:

Now I've managed to post two of my above post. How did that happen? I thought I'd deleted the second one when I realised my mistake.

Having bust a gut, metaphorically torn my hair out learning how to post images, I NOW have to learn how to delete the blasted things
