Haven't Heard From My Local Council

Socialise and chat about other areas of your life
I've wrote to my local council (on my dad's behalf) last month about finding employment and my job search benefit (Universal Credit) ending.

I still haven't got a response from them. But after looking at my letter I realised I've forgotten to type in a reference number (however, I've included my home address).

Could this be why they haven't responded - and does this mean I will have to write to them again?

Thanks.

EDIT:

Last month, I wrote a letter to my local council to report a change. They haven't sent me a response letter. Today, after looking at my copy of the letter I've sent them, I realised I haven't included a reference number on it. Is this why they haven't responded (or do they not send respond letters)?
Hi Andrew.

A little perplexed.

LA ? ... and not the DWP ( Job Centre and UC Unit ) ?

By letter as opposed to online ?

If UC is involved , your online journal is the place for that.

Care to expand a little.
Sorry for the confusion. I realised I've overcomplicated my thread a little. Let me try simplifying it and get to the point (disregard my previous post):

Most probably ... is the only logical answer.

( If the envelope was address to , say , THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT ... but not the letter , that could also be a valid reason as most post is opened centrally ... and then distributed to the various departments ... your letter could have reached , say , THE WASTE DISPOSAL section and ... after reading the first paragraph , filed appropriately ? )

Most Organisations are " Lost " if their customer does not quote a reference number.

As if searching for a name and / or address in their records was beyond their capabilities.

If I were you , I would try submitting whatever online ... most LA web sites are geared up for electronic replies.

Not only that , greater chance of said communication reaching the right pair of eyes.

( How many separate departments inside a normal LA ... purely rhetorical ! )
Thank you.
