Hi, I am new to the forum but just wanted a bit of advise. I work full time as a carer for a profoundly disabled person. Her mother wants to take here away on holiday for the week and has asked me to go with them as well and she is paying. Should l have to take this as annual holiday or not? Would appreciate any advise on this.
Thanks In Advance
Hello Jane,

Carers UK is a charity set up to help the millions of people who look after an older, disabled or seriously ill family member or friend.

so I'm afraid we are not in a position to offer you employment advice Image

If you belong to a union (like Unison which covers public sector employees) then I would suggest that they would be better placed to advise you.

Ok Thanks
Unison? Union rates? Not likely! Anyway the answer is - no it's not holiday, its work, and you need to negotiate the correct rate of pay: usually this is 16 hours (i.e. two days pay) per day, plus a negotiable night allowance if you are required to get up during the night. So your holiday pay pro rate for one week should also be double, meaning you should be looking for at least 10% on top of your wages to cover your rights, inc public holidays etc.
