My Russian language teacher had jet black hair and a ginger beard. Had a wonderful bass singing voice, we spent lots of time in his lessons learning things like the Volga Boat Song!
Spot on Alexander!!!
Mrs A, you are from Average!!! A real asset to the forum.
If I had my time again I might be the dare devil I secretly wanted to be!! Pink / purple hair, nose stud. March with Ban the Bomb Didn't dare, my parent wrath and all that. I had to be home 10oclock on the dot or else..Ah well wasn't to be and I doubt hubby would have been interested in me, so I fared very well.
I did wear mini skirts!

You still can be! :D
Hi Pet66

Go for it! Dye your hair purple (there's a poem about that; I'll see if I can hunt it out for you) get a tattoo and make Zandra Rhodes look like Hyacinth Bucket by the comparison B)

I too find family hair/eye colouring genes fascinating. Haven’t got a clue really as to how they work, but still find genes fascinating.
My dad had jet black hair when much younger; the sort that looked electric blue in places like a magpies black bits.
Mum had silver blonde hair when a child which turned a dark blonde/pale mousey brown as she aged. As such she was forever dying it since her late teens; everything from platinum blonde to rabid redhead. It was really disconcerting to set off for school with a blonde mum in the kitchen, only to return home early evening to this redheaded ‘stranger.’ Being a redhead suited her, though.
However, both my brothers and I have really dark hair, but not blue black like dad’s used to be. Mine’s darker than my brothers being a sort of dullish black, but no shiny blue bits when the sun shines on it unfortunately.

My dad’s family is weird. Three of his brothers and his one sister are tallish, blue-eyed blondes (taking after my granddad) and he and three other brothers are shortish, greenish-eyed blackheads, taking after my nana.
I remember turning up to some family do and several of my cousins (all kids from one uncle), seated along the back walk looking very severe and unfriendly, all had white blond hair and very pale blue eyes. They looked like the kids from the film ‘The Village of the Damned' :o
village of the damned.jpg
The really did look like the kids above… Freaky or what!

My hair too is beginning to go grey. However, going by these renegade grey betrayers it looks as though my hair will eventually go snow white, just like mum’s ended up.
Eventually, I too will get fed up of dying the roots but, to kind of quote St Augustine, “God make me grey, but not just yet.”
Until that ‘fed up of this dying lark’ day arrives, I’m sticking to Superdrug’s Colour Performance 3.0 Natural Darkest Brown. I mix it with a squirt of SD's Natural Black 1.0 as their darkest brown isn't quite dark enough but the black on it's own is too black making me look like a Irish barmaid.... The trials & tribulations of hair dying,eh
I wonder how many times your husband heard you tell people it was Auburn over the years - and I bet you thought he wasn;t listening LOL .
Pet66

I've hunted down that poem for you that your thread and posts made me think of.... Enjoy ;)

P.S. You should be very proud to have auburn hair. You're very lucky if you have it naturally. It's my fave colour, particularly the more coppery shades.
You should count yourself lucky that you don't have really dark hair like me. If you do, then you have to bleach it first before dying it lighter, otherwise dyes just don't work so they're a complete waste of time and money. My hair is too thin to risk that so I'm stuck with a really boring colour.
Then just as I 'embraced' my hair colour it started going grey/white. TYPICAL :pinch:
I suppose I could let it go white naturally THEN dye it a glorious burnished copper colour, but that would take years. I don't fancy looking like Cruella D'Ville in the meantime so Superdrug dye it is!
Love it love it!!!
I've jumped in puddles with my grandchildren and sang in the rain. Let my now adult grandaughters put my make up on for me lol. Lipstick on cheeks, teeth and clothes. Happy days.
I won't dye my hair purple or have a nose stud. Only because I don't want my family to worry about me too!
