Hi everyone - long time no write! One of our volunteers today told me about Future Learn https://www.futurelearn.com It is a privately company wholly owned by the Open University which offers completely free online courses. I know only too well when caring finding time to study is not easy but I thought I would pass on the link in case anyone was interested in finding out more. The only charge is if you intend to request a certificate at the end of the course. I have a volunteer who has now completed several of the subjects and has done them all completely free.

Take care everyone - and may the sun shine on you all! (In fact, I would happily send over ours to you - 40 degrees of heat here day after day which I know we should be grateful to have but gee is it draining!).

Regards,
Bell x
Hi,
Yes, I'm half-way through a six-week course on family history from the University of Strathclyde under Futurelearn. Highly recommended.

thank you so much for posting this link Bell! Xx

I have signed up for the beginners Spanish starting on 8 August. Its spooky really because just last week I bumped into an old acquaintance who used to teach Spanish full time and now does it privately. I was tempted to enrol with her but imagined it might be very expensive so I am thrilled you posted this.

I actually studied Spanish at Grammar school but I'm afraid we had a rubbish teacher who couldn't control the class and I very quickly lost interest and spent my time messing about. Some of it must have penetrated my thick skull though because we often go to Spanish speaking countries on holiday and I can make out signs and understand a fair bit on Spanish TV. IT would be nice to hold a brief conversation next time we go.

I am really looking forward to starting the course now. :)
Really pleased that you are going to use the scheme Penny. I may do something myself too! Spanish was always my favourite subject when I was at school and dreamt of moving to Spain and marrying a Spaniard! 30 odd years later I did move here and married a tall, dark haired Londoner! Hope you enjoy the Spanish as much as I did Penny

I'm starting a course on Future Learn at the end of August - it's called Medicine and the Arts. There isn't a lot of info available but I'm hoping it'll have some of what I'm looking for. I'm really interested in the healing/therapeutic benefits of creativity, so I've been looking for an online course I can do for ages as I can't manage to go to college. It's starts on the 29th and I'm looking forward to it!
