It is really bugging me this one.
Why do the commentators speak of (in the paralympics) swimming, equestrian events, rowing, sailing, 100m sprinting etc etc etc
BUT ...............
they then talk about the 'WHEELCHAIR rugby' and the 'WHEELCHAIR tennis'.
WHY don't they just call them rugby and tennis. Why do they have to emphasize the 'wheelchair' bit.
Drives me scatty.
Drives me nuts too.
I guess it must be very difficult to ride a horse with a wheelchair. Image Image Image Image
I know what you mean but it could indicate different rules too. In the tennis I watched there the other day the ball could bounce twice before being hit for example.
Maybe it is to differentiate between those Olympic sports where the atheletes use a wheelchair and the same Olympic sports where the atheletes use prosthetic limbs?
Yes, but still, just call it tennis and rugby, what difference does it make? It's the Paralympics so there's bound to be some sort of disability in every sport. How would people react if they called 1000M sprint "the 1000M prosthetic leg sprint".

Oh Nananana I have to confess this made me laugh. Image I do see your point, though.

I am a bit ambivalent about this one as my son plays powerchair football. That is exactly what it is - they play football - in powerchairs so I don't know what else they could call it? He also used to play powerhockey but people didn't know what that meant - again it was playing hockey but using a powerchair.
