Hello, I live in mid wales and during the big storm on wednesday I was watching a pair of red kites that just seemed to be enjoying 'surfing' the storm Image love watching these birds and never get bored of seeing them!

Oh If only, what a joy for you I would love to have them here in the Midlands have to be satisfied with a pair of buzzards who nest every year in our local park xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Red kites are uber-cool and you win the de-luxe holiday to New Zealand!
Only kidding about the last bit . Sorry. But Red Kites rock!
I can see Osprey fishing if I drive to the pub over the hill. Not every time, but quite often.
People pay £1M for a small flat in London and have no idea what they are missing. The real riches are in our backyard.

Too true scally - although I gather that there is more wildlife in cities than you might imagine.

Am I allowed to be smug and say that there are red kites nesting up the road from me? I couldnt believe it the first time I saw them, but i gather that they have made a comeback. There are also peregrine falcons and Im told there are hobbies too - but Ive not seen them.
Hey JHR, buzzards are pretty cool too, they are birds of prey remember.
I think scally wins the award with ospreys - OSPREYS no less. Ive never seen one.
Ospreys are great to watch, but I love Peregrines and Red Kites too. I once was threatened by a Golden Eagle whilst climbing a gully near Achnashellach, but that's another story, for another day.
Oh, cant wait for my free holiday to new zealand!!!!!! packing my case now Image Yep, its abit wet living out here at the moment but wouldnt change a thing, lovely place to live (twinned with atlantis ) x
Anyway, back to the mundane: I claim a siskin: !!

the only time i have seen ospreys ,is in canada when we were on holiday in 2005.
the house where malcolm and me grew up was next to a field, used to see plenty of birds .then in the winter there were redwings ,fieldfares ,bramblings ,plus a load of native birds .
there was a telegraph pole out the back ,green woodpeckers used to land on it .
Oh WOW... that's brill! I was always told those hovering birds of prey were ospray's. Maybe they are, maybe they're not.
But, by god, can they swoop!
No they weren't; they were kestrels, according to twitcher neighbour. Still swooped ace, though!
