I know we are get them from so-called friends and family but I have decided to host my own Annoying Comment Olympics from comments received this week SO FAR:

Bronze medal: "She's very independent for her age; that will change" (said in full hearing of mum)

(Judge's comment: well as long as she doesn't have to sort out meals, baths, outings, medication, shopping, hospital appointments, paperwork, that is, and anyway, how would you know as you haven't visited in over 2 months?)

Silver medal: "What a shame you couldn't come, you would have enjoyed it. We took some photos for you"

(Judge's comment: Yes, I too would have liked to drop everything and go off at short notice for a weekend. Glad you had a good time but do you have to rub my nose in it??)

Gold medal: "I know what it's like; we looked after mother-in-law for a week once"

(Judge's comment: no comment, too busy strangling aunt!)

Any medal comments of your own?
I expect we'll all be like that one day Image
Gold Medal for No Understanding or Empathy.
I expect things are just the same Image
Silver Medal for Dont Tell Me Anything.
Try not to Worry Image
Bronze for Im not worried Image
Gold - If you ever need any help ..............
Silver - I don't know how you cope ............
Bronze - I couldn't do what you do ............
bronze- "people with learning disabilities should not be out and about in public."
Judge's verdict,unprintable.
silver-a relative hearing about my grandson's learning disability,"oh your daughter will be better off now as she can apply for DLA and Carers Allowance!"
Judge's comment unprintable, but thank you to a special friend here that I was able to tell.x
gold-"Your son(with Downs Syndrome) is not intelligent enough to understand his brother's death."
Gold - If you ever need any help ..............
Silver - I don't know how you cope ............
Bronze - I couldn't do what you do ............
These are spot on. I would add to the 3rd, "Your so good, I couldn't do what you do "

The gold for naivety to my sil.
"If our parents get to the stage they need care we'll all club together and do it between us'
Judges verdict I'll believe it when I see it

Silver ' It must much less stressful being at home careing'
Verdict - Nope

Bronze ' I know how difficult it is I have a small child'
Verdict - lets swap and see
Gold - Hubby's brother - I find it emotionally upsetting to see my brother's condition deteriorate so don't want to be involved in any discussions about it.
Strangely my husband & I find it distressing as well but we can't stick our heads in the sand & get on with life.

Silver - Hubby's Mum - When is he going to get a full time job - he has deteriorated to a point when he will be unable to get a full time job again & it would really help if you shut up about it.

Bronze - when are you going to get a full time job - well I do have one actually, I care for your son but if you'd like I could go out to work & you could do the caring.
Gold (Mother in Law) - "It's not on our side of the family"
Actually, autism is on both sides of the family. Specifically, it follows your family line and my mother's.

Silver (Brother in Law) - "He'll grow out of it"
Actually, he won't. His diagnosis, "early childhood autism" refers to the onset from or shortly after birth, not how long it lasts

Bronze (Several social workers) - "I have worked with people with learning difficulties for (x) years."
Actually I asked about your knowledge of autism. So either you can't listen or you don't understand the specific issues around autism. Time to give you some training.
Gold - If you ever need any help ..............
Silver - I don't know how you cope ............
Bronze - I couldn't do what you do ............
These are spot on. I would add to the 3rd, "Your so good, I couldn't do what you do "

Ditto to these! I would like to upgrade the bronze to gold please! (what would they do instead?!!)
Charles,"He'll grow out of it."That deserves a special platinum medal! I have had that said to me so many times about Ben and his Downs syndrome.
