While going through Mum's drawers full of stuff I came across a puzzle. It's a recognisable object in that it's some kind of die. Instead of being the cube with numbers 1 to 6 it is an octagonal shape, tapering to a spinning base. (as in spinning top), with a spike at the top to enable the spinning to be initiated. On each of the panels on the octagonal section are a series of symbols and numbers. P 1, 1 2, circle, P 3, T, P 4,star, T 3. It's 1.5 inches high and is made of some cream material which could be plastic, or ivory or bone.
What game does this belong to? Anyone recognise it?
Cheers
Elaine

it's called a teetotum and is used in the same way as a conventional dice - I can remember playing with one as a child but can't remember the game it was used with !
Thank you all.
Mrs A that's it -a 'put and take' die. This one is a mixture of the bakerlite (sp?)and celluloid dies shown on the pictures. Like the bakerlite but with a spike top, not moulded.
OK. What was put and take? Never heard of it.

Directions how to play are lower down in the second link.
No reckless gambling now, now that you are a lady of leisure ;)
Ps love it when Google makes me look clever. How did we manage before?
I wish - for both!
Sounds like a nice silly Christmas game to play with the kids - and matchsticks!
Thank you.
