On the grave of Ezekiel Aikle in East Dalhousie Cemetery, Nova Scotia:
Here lies Ezekial Aikle Age 102: The Good Die Young.

In a London, England cemetery:
Ann Mann: Here lies Ann Mann, Who lived an old maid But died an old Mann. Dec. 8, 1767

widow wrote this epitaph in a Vermont cemetery:
Sacred to the memory of my husband John Barnes who died January 3, 1803.
His comely young widow, aged 23, has many qualifications of a good wife, and yearns to be comforted.

A lawyer's epitaph in England:
Sir John Strange: Here lies an honest lawyer, And that is Strange.

Oops! Harry Edsel Smith of Albany, New York: Born 1903--Died 1942
Looked up the elevator shaft to see if the car was on the way down. It was.

In a Thurmont, Maryland, cemetery:
Here lies an Atheist All dressed up And no place to go.

I always liked Spike Milligans epitaph - "I told you I was ill", although, apparently, it had to be written in Gaelic to get Church approval!

Or how about this (joke) story about a man who ordered the headstone for his wife. He wanted the words "Lord, she was thine" carved on it and was most upset to see that the stone mason had instead carved "Lord, she was thin"

He contacted the stone mason and shouted at him - what do you think you are playing at??? That wasnt what I ordered. Youve put "Lord she was thin" on it - youve left the E out!!!!

So the stone mason apologised profusely and went away to rectify it.
He came back the next week and the headstone now read

Eeeh Lord, she was thin

Loved the last one! Image

"That's all, folks!"
Mel Blanc (the epithaph is the trademark line of cartoon character Porky Pig, whose voice was provided by Blanc for many years)

Some british king is reputed to have said, "bugger Bogner" on his death death. Nobody knows why... what on earth did he have against Bogner.... did he mean Bogner Regis?
