Annoying question

Okay, this one baffles many people, and I'm not entirely sure I can remember the answer
but here goes...
Three friends check into a hotel. The room is £30 so they spilt it and pay £10 each. The person at the door takes their money to the manager who informs him that today there is a discount and the room only costs £25. So the person at the door goes back to the room, gives each person £1 back and then pockets the last £2 for themselves.
So here's the tricky bit - If each person paid £10 and got £1 back (£9 each) and the person at the door pocketed the £2 then that makes a total of £29 (9+9+9+2)
So where did the other pound go?
