Hi Henrietta, when SOcial Services organised carers for my husband, I thought "how wonderful" but before long I realised that unfortunately some of them want to do as little as possible. My advice would be to befriend and be extra nice to any that DO want to be doing their job - I hope you have one ...
Thanks Bowlingbun. My Social worker is due to come soon for a review, so I will tell her how tired I am. Think it's both physical and emotional. Don't sleep well but am not disturbed by husband needing me at night. I haven't slept well for years and didn't sleep well even before husband was ill. I m...
I value my hours out of the house but find I am just too tired to go anywhere or do anything. Yesterday I was too tired to walk to the post office from the car park in town. When I get home there is so much to do to catch up that I wonder why I went out! What can I do in my time off that doesn't req...

The care homes were offering nursing care but I suspect they didn't want to do a short term of four days. A live-in carer ...
Apparently my husband's condition means care homes think his dependency is too high for them to take him for four days to give me a break. One told me he was "not compatible with the other residents" although they hadn't met him. He is 84, has mobility problems, unreliable bowels and mild dysphagia....
thanks Henrietta - I will definitely call 999 if it happens again - husband a bit stronger today so I am hopeful for an ok day.
today my husband has not been able to stand at all and getting him from recliner to wheeled commode and back again this morning has been extremely difficult. This afternoon while trying to remove his trousers and underwear to get him onto the commode, he slid down onto the floor. He wasn't hurt and ...
we have had a financial assessment. To decide if we have to pay for daily visits from carers, all our savings were taken into account - both mine and my husband's, then divided in half. However, if my spouse were to go into residential care, none of my own savings would be included in the calculatio...
thanks for your replies - very helpful advice
