An amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill which, its backers said, would protect support given to disabled children has been defeated by just two votes in the House of Lords.
As peers resumed day one of report stage of the Welfare Reform Bill on 12 December 2011, crossbench peer Baroness Grey-Thompson spoke in support of an amendment which would ensure payments made to support disabled children would be no lower than under the existing benefits system.
