Malnutrition Amongst Family / Kinship Carers : Just How Many ... High Time To Find Out ?

Discuss news stories and political issues that affect carers.
Yep ... " Interesting " session today ... Lynne Stevenson , a Dietitian from Nutricia , who has been working in partnership with Carers UK for a few years now.

For the full sp on what transpired , that thread :

https://www.carersuk.org/forum/social-a ... june-37220

Conclusions ?

I leave those to you , the readers ... what did you make of it ?

No more from me on that score ... let that thread do the talking !

Diarise forward in the hope that this abonimation of an Issue will finally be addressed by all and sundry !
Timely reminder from CUK ... It's Health Information Week !
It's Health Information Week. See our pages on health for all our information about looking after you as well as the person you care for. Including the page below about telling your GP that you're a carer. If you've told your GP, has this been useful for you? Share your experience.

My immediate reaction is ... MALNUTRITION AMONGST CARERS and FOOD BANKS.

Strange that ... both are missing from elsewhere on this site.
From CUK's FaceAche page :

For Malnutrition Awareness Week, we're sharing our leaflets about caring and nutrition.

They cover topics including the importance of eating well for carers, speaking to your GP about nutrition, and eating well with specific medical conditions such as dementia and cancer.

You can find all the leaflets here: carersuk.org/carers-uk-and-nutricia-resources

Following on from the disastrous NUTRITION session ... https://www.carersuk.org/forum/social-a ... june-37220 ... have CUK learnt anything at all ???

I wonder what the 100,000+ of our army who have used food banks think ???

Perhaps 110-120,000 by this time next year ?
Just picked this up from CUK's FaceAche page ... nothing on this forum so far :

During National Obesity Awareness Week, have a look at our nutrition resources, they cover topics including eating well with dementia and tips for carers on eating well.

https://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advic ... -resources

It comes as no surprise to me that MALNUTRITION IN CARERS doesn't even get a mention ... beyond eating better.

Tell that to the 100,000+ who have had to use a food bank ... probably nearer 125,000+ when the annual figures are released by Trussells.

Did CUK learn nothing from that session with their nutrition's expert ?

https://www.carersuk.org/forum/social-a ... lnutrition

Apparently not !
A potential explosion in malnutrition and related maladies nationwide ... let alone family carers ?

Both are now major factors.

Millions are now at risk :

AGE UK ... guidance for the elderly ... which may now be extended to all other citizens :

https://www.ageuk.org.uk/our-impact/pro ... ask-force/

Said " Malnutrition Task Force " ... time for them to link up with Trussells and the numerous mutual aid local groups ???

The Malnutrition Task Force

The Malnutrition Task Force (MTF) is committed to working across the community and care settings to tackle avoidable and preventable malnutrition and dehydration in older people.

How about Carers UK and Carers Trust ?

As far as coronavirus and malnutrition are concerned , we ARE all in this together ?
