Carers are set to miss out again on NHS money earmarked for them, a new report has found.

Whilst any govt continues to work top/down, money will never, or at least only a fraction of it, will reach family carers.
The whole thing needs ripped apart but when renewing, build from the strong foundation that family carers provide. Anything else will be unsustainable in the long term.

If we look at members here.Although joined a carers support forum,the illnesses/disabilities of those they care for covers a wide range.Alzheimers,MS,DS,autism,cancer,parkinsons and so on. Yet the one common thread running through the lot of them is family support to such an extent that the NHS and Soc services cannot cope without them. On the C4 programme the other night,even Burnham said families would be relied on even more so in the future.If that is the case start building now to ensure they receive the necessary support both financially and resources.

Interesting this week that it was announced that doctors and NHS managers will not be getting a pay rise this year - also interesting that one person told me 'well they're not supposed to' - so if the docs and managers in your area get a pay rise you'll know where the carers' money has gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They used to have a thing called increments in the NHS, and this allowed for increased pay every year on the basis of extra experience. It was often more than the cost-of-living rise. I dont know if they still do this in the new contracts, but it is a nice perk. Managers also have some kind of discretionary bonus scheme based on achieving agreed targets, most of which are highly questionable. And doctors have some nice little side-earners too, like ash-cash (pay for signing death/cremation certificates), court report fees, private earnings and consultants awards schemes. Some of them are really raking it in. "NHS Consultants can earn between £74,504 to £176,242, dependent on length of service and payment of additional performance related awards".
So my guess is that it will be business as usual.

Has to be said that the Clinical Excellence Award scheme that replaced the old Merit Award scheme (for consultants) is much improved - shame is that there is any scheme at all!!!!!!!

The old Merit Award scheme was controlled by the old boys network - voted for by colleagues so anyone who rocked the boat or didn't train in the right place didn't get one unless they were a big enough bully to command votes! It was changed following the heart scandal in Bristol when one of the consultants who was eventually struck off was given a high levela ward whilst being investigated!!!!!!

The new scheme is not voted for by colleagues - levels 1-9 are awarded locally by the trust (very bad idea!) and subsequent levels are awarded nationally - better but shouldn't exist at all really! Awards are no longer awarded indefinately - reviewed every so many years and removed if not still doing the extras needed to get them.

The ideal situation would be to end the sheme completely - on high level holder stated in the personal statement for the application that they had improved transition from paeds to adult - funny that - one family were treated appallingly through this process - improvement is not a word that would come to mind!!!!!!!!!!

Nurses on high wages tend to be specialist nurses and matrons - many of whom are now becoming victims of the constant rounds of money saving cuts - redundancies and redeployments are rife - though sadly not always for the right people!!!!!!.

Obviously the answer is to end the CEA scheme immediately and divi up the money saved between carers!
Oh yes - and add to the divi fund by removing most of the managers!!!!!!!
