i recently managed to convince mum to get duel fuel , rather than pay 2 companies diff rates.
We have no choice but stay on Prey Pay meters ,, ( mum is not allowed to set up DD's part of her T&C's with a debt management company CAS put her through )
But i called British Gas directly and spoke with them ,, to get electric told them what we currently spend per week with Scottish Southern Energy . and we were told we will get duel fuel discount of £15 a year added to the meter , and i was given a 2nd number to call once our supply was moved to them.
Called it the other day and they were extremely helpful and processed our claim for the Warm home discount that SSE had told us we were not entitled to.. British Gas said we do infact qualify for it and it will be £140. When i told mum that she was over the moon. so in total i saved mum £30 a week in electric , £15 duel fuel ,, and the £140 warm home .
One success story ... now for many more !

As posted , there are numerous schemes out there , it costs nothing to enquire.

Why pay £ 10 for something when the same article is only £ 8 around the corner ?

The links on the first posting ... use them !
James, that is really helpful information. I'll try and do the ssme for my son.
Obviously , there are price comparison sities out there ... simples ?

However , as they are commercial oufits relying on commission kick backs , with some downsides , I will NOT list them here.

It is for each reader to explore these bearing in mind the above observations.
in my case , price comparison sites were a complete waste of time , As they suggested i used companies that do not supply my area.
Just to add insult to injury , the first report of a forthcoming price hike in electricity.

No doubt , the others will " Sheepishly " follow each other blaming all and sundry except for their shareholders wanting a better return on their investment ?
James has made a very good point on price comparison sites.

Tread carefully as there are some downsides.

Energy Signposting.

In some foodbanks we offer a signposting and guided self-help service for clients, which helps them find long-term support to alleviate fuel poverty.

There is a huge amount of information out there about how to save money on your energy bills, as well as many different schemes designed to help people in fuel poverty, but this can be confusing and difficult to understand. We aim to make this information more accessible and help people get the support they’re entitled to.

How does it work?

Volunteers sit with a client while their food package is prepared and discuss the support they might need.

If they mention problems with fuel debt and are struggling to pay bills, they may be in need of help to solve these issues.

The topics covered include…

Energy efficiency tips and information
How to read an energy bill
How to read your meters
Where to look if you want to switch supplier
How to apply for grants to alleviate fuel debt or receive energy efficient white goods
