I see the tax free mileage rate has been raised to 45p - that'll please the fat cat public sector staff, who rely on it to top up their earnings. Its mostly higher paid staff who can use their own cars for business purposes in this way: Another case of a hidden subsidy for the better off.

The proposed merger of National Insurance with Income Tax is a direct attack on carers who retire early on modest pensions to care full or part time: at the moment NI isnt payable on unearned income such as pensions: this may well change.

Don't forget the self employed will benefit from this.

Aye, we're a' doomed.... Image
I am not totally opposed to cuts, I quite like the idea of axing a few of our utterly useless nuclear submarines for example, and there are far too many grossly overpaid managers in the Courts, Civil Service, Quangos, NHS and local government. I'd probably abolish the Crofters Agency and the Deer Commission ... and eliminate all management consultants without mercy.

I think we should cut all the spending on Polaris and give the money to cuddly, gay-friendly, anti-racist, ethnic minority community groups for people with disabilities and their carers. As long as they are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and can demonstrate evidence of good governance and sustainability.

No, I'm serious. ...
OK
I'm joking, a bit.
So: who would you give a couple of billion quid to: what's your worthy cause?

If it were me I'd give it all: the whole lot: to the starving kids in War Zones, and then I'd double it.
