In an interview with "Property Weekly"(0nline)Bruce Ritchie boasts of "Having a billion pounds of bank money"with which to extend his vast property empire. As well as 'a string of nightclubs' Ritchie has a yacht,'The Blue Princess',moored in Cannes ,yet the tenants of one block he owns,Old Manor Court in London's Abbey Road, have seen how he amassed his fortune. For the last 3 months contactors Stoneforce(probably another of Ritchie's companies)have been gutting the 4 flats on the first floor, directly above the flat of the poet and protester Brenda Williams, who has finally said no to Ritchie's casual and callous rapacity and as I write she is pacing the block forcourt with a placard drawing attention to the plight of tenants, many like herself, elderly and disabled.Yesterday she began a hunger strike and vows to continue until the last man and van have gone.No legislation exists to force property developers like Ritchie to re-house those whose lives are reduced to rubble while he extends his fortune and most tenants dare not protest as they are on short-term leases.Noise kills-the WHO estimate that as many as 200,000 have died worldwide due to noise pollution. While governments have signed up to a protocol to limit this horror,so far Berlin is the only city to have enforced the decibel level compatible with safety.Developers should pay a noise tax perhaps...

Excessive noise seriously harms human health and interferes with people’s daily activities at school, at work, at home and during leisure time. It can disturb sleep, cause cardiovascular and psychophysiological effects, reduce performance and provoke annoyance responses and changes in social behaviour....
Digging further has so far found references to health problems associated with noise but not one reference to deaths as a result of noise.
