Move the pension age back to 60 for both men & women. With immediate/imminent effect. Back to what it was for women born in the 1950s & 1960s.

Young people are struggling to find work, & losing their jobs, due to the pandemic. Why not allow older people to retire earlier, thereby freeing up jobs for younger people? There would be a cost, however, surely a far more positive cost than paying Universal Credit? Not to mention the option of restoring the balance back into young people's favour, & helping restore their future.

Am 71 so had my state pension at 60. ( Married woman stamp) so pro rata I have old state pension. My sister has just received her pension which is new state pension. My concern is the government will cut all back to the old which is a considerable difference. Depends if people would rather have money at 60 or wait? I know my sister would rather have had less at 60 instead of struggling on.

Oh wow - imagine that - I could retire in 6 years instead of 13!!

This might be an unpopular thing to say but I don't think it helps though that some young people don't want to do the jobs that are out there and employers are struggling to recruit.

Pet, what's the difference in amount to live on between old style and new style pension?

Since there is a consultation re moving free prescriptions from 60 to 67 - this could be a hard battle to fight.

I have already waited 4 extra years and have another 2 to go. I have over 40+ years in NI.

I would rather have less pension and have it now.

Old state pension £137.60 per week
New ". ". £179.60 per week

So £168 per month more. Depending on how long paid in of course.
As stated, my sis needed her pension at 60, as am sure many do. Am all for the reduction in age when receiving it if that's what's wanted by individuals.
I also think benefits should not be taken away from disabled etc.

Perhaps folk should have the choice - work till 60 and have old style amount, Work until 67 and have new style amount.

Everyone's situation is different - health, commitments, finances, demands of the job etc

Many 1950's ladies are full time carers and have already left employment. To do caring responsibilities. And if they position changes before they reach SPA. Have to spend their savings and possible move home. With no hope of being employed or tried and ill themselves. There should be a sliding pension scale for men and women. Until able to collect their full pension.

It's around 79000 now but the government is determined to in crease the age even higher....
