There are 152,381 UK families coping with #dementia denied council tax discount of between £200 and £10,400 because they live in one of the 255 councils who do not give them their full discount. There are 1,008,375 UK people with #Dementia and each has friends, carers and relatives. That's some 5 million people touched by dementia. An MP has presented a petition to parliament to change the laws on Council Tax Discounts for people with Dementia. The petition requires that council tax disregards are backdated to the date a person was certified as being severely mentally impaired by their GP, where they then go on to qualify for a relevant benefit. It is imperative that MPs and MSPs on all sides present and support this petition so that both people with dementia and their mostly unpaid carers are recognised. Please ask your MP/MSP to give their support.
