REQUEST FOR CASE STUDIES FOR NATIONAL EYE HEALTH WEEK
(13 -19 June 2011)

We want invite your support for this year’s National Eye Health Week (NEHW). We are eager to get on board patient case studies who could talk movingly to the media about why it’s important for the public to get their eyes checked regularly.

The Week aims to raise awareness of the importance of regular sight tests to improve the early detection of eye diseases and of deterioration of sight, saving the sight of thousands of people and improving quality of life for thousands more. The campaign also aims to educate the public on the broader health conditions that can be detected through a sight test, allowing them to access treatment early and ultimately, transform lives.

Publicity
The campaign will be publicised through national and local press, on television, radio print, and online. Real life stories are vital to us achieving as much publicity as possible and encouraging others to get tested by talking firsthand about their personal experiences.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a wide variety of case studies. Among that we would love to get the perspective of someone caring for a visually impaired person.

What will you commitment be?
You will have the opportunity to become involved in the campaign in a variety of ways. Most interviews are likely to take place over the telephone, which means the time commitment could be relatively small. Alternatively, if you were comfortable doing so, we could put you forward for radio and television opportunities. This could involve a live or pre-recorded interview, and you may have to travel to a TV or radio studio.

While we aim to provide as much notice as possible with the opportunity of an interview, journalists can sometimes work to very tight deadlines, and we may need to call upon you at short notice.

Our support
To ensure you feel fully prepared for the interview, we will make sure that they are armed with a short briefing document and background information on the Week, as well as information about the journalist and an idea of the questions that they will ask. We will also call you to check that they have everything they need.

Media appearances will be on a pro bono basis (NEHW is applying for charitable status), however, we will cover any expenses (such as travel) incurred as part of your role.

Our commitment
• We will contact you through the most convenient means to you
• We will never give your contact details to a journalist without asking you first
• If travel is required, we will organise this for you
• If a TV interview is required, we will ensure we attend the studio with you
• We will forward you the coverage!

If you know of any suitable candidates to act as case studies please discuss this opportunity to help our important campaign with them. If you are interested in becoming involved please respond to this email address telling us a little bit about yourself:

• Your name and contact details
• A short description of your experience

If you have any questions a member of our team can be contacted on 020 8675 4779.

We look forwards to hearing from you.
