Hello board members,

My name is Harriet and I am a carer for my daughter who has special needs. I am also a writer and am working on an article about carers, and wonder if you can help me?

Recent research suggests that there are hundreds of thousands of people referred to as the 'stretched generation' who are caring for an elderly relative as well as helping look after their grandchildren. Typically these might be women in their 50, 60s or 70s who want to help their son or daughter avoid astronomical childcare costs by helping out with the childcare. They are also caring for an elderly parent, aunt, uncle or other relative.

This is apparently a relatively new phenomenon because we are all living longer, and having more children.

I am looking to interview some people in this situation to look at how people are 'stretching' themselves to help their families out. It is for a newspaper article and there is a generous fee to anyone who is featured in the article - we would also like to take photographs.

If you can help me I would be very grateful if you could get in touch, either via this forum or by my email harrietarkell@hotmail.com

Thank you very much, and I look forward to posting on this board not in a professional capacity - I cannot believe that I only found out about this site through work!
