Coronoravirus : NEW GOVERNMENT ADVICE FOR ALL FAMILY / KINSHIP CARERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Carers UK Forum

Coronoravirus : NEW GOVERNMENT ADVICE FOR ALL FAMILY / KINSHIP CARERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guidance on coronavirus and a place to share concerns and support
Fresh off the presses :

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -or-family

Who this guidance is for ?

This guidance is for anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who, due to a lifelong condition, illness, disability, serious injury, a mental health condition or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.

It builds on other guidance published on GOV.UK, including the Stay at home guidance and the Guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK and protecting older people and vulnerable adults.

The new " Bible " for all to read ... and digest ?

... and please , don't shoot the messenger !
I found this an insult. I know it's a touchy subject, but how many of us have friends or family who could help in an emergency?
The care provider for my son, as soon as she realised there was going to be a lockdown, immediately, without any consultation whatsoever, wrote an email to me saying "Come and get M asap" , yet I am in the vulnerable "flu jab" group myself!
Not much point in asking the LA either in my view, because they were the ones that appointed the agency in the first place. There has been no "slack" in the system for years. I have been repeatedly forced to care in the past, at short notice, because of agency breakdowns!!
No mention of extra money for all the extra care family carers are providing either!!
If ever we had an idea that family carers were being overlooked and taken for granted, here is the evidence to back up that view!
Off forum , 4 irate emails already received on exactly the same point , BB.

Accessing alternative care quickly if you are unable to provide care.

Having to organise alternative care can be difficult and concerning.

Where possible, you should contact friends and family who may be able to give immediate help in providing care.

You should follow the guidelines set out in the Stay at home guidance and the Guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK and protecting older people and vulnerable adults to protect those coming into the home of the person who needs care.

If you cannot organise alternative care you can contact your local authority or health care provider.

If you do not know how to do this, you can contact NHS 111.

As mentioned on another thread ... CARERS TRUST EMERGENCY SCHEME FOR FAMILY CARERS ... a new ball game now ????????

https://www.carersuk.org/forum/support- ... rers-37095

If essential , who has to pay for it ?????

In some cases , a qualified nurse may be needed ... 24 / 7 ... even a psychiatrist !!!

( How many forum threads mention the refusal of CHC / NHS Continuing Healthcare applications ??? )
I find it ridiculous too.

Hardly any carers in reality has someone who could just step in.

What planet are people on.

Even with a carer emergency plan there are not going to be spare agency staff at this time!

I never sent mine back as the lady from the agency admitted they sometimes could not find anyone to cover..and that was before Corona.

Any carers on here had Corona and not been able to care?

It's a concern for all of us.

BB is your son still being looked after by support workers ok?
