Census data update

On 16 May 2013 more detailed information on the characteristics of the carer population was published by the Office for National Statistics. This data applies to England and Wales only as data for Northern Ireland and Scotland is analysed and published separately.

This new data follows Carers UK Census analysis published in December 2012 showing an increase of 600,000 (11%) in the total number of carers since 2001 - with the national figure now standing at 6.5 million carers in the UK.

Carers UK has created tabulated data by local area for local groups, services and commissioners. The briefing below includes the headline results and information about what data is available by local area. All national and local data tables are also available to download below.
