Roz Williamson retiring

07 February 2013

Roz Williamson, the Director of Carers Wales since 1999, is retiring at the end of March.  During her time with Carers Wales, she has been actively involved in campaigning for a better deal for carers in Wales. She has worked with the Welsh Government, the National Assembly for Wales and the UK government to ensure that the real life experiences of carers informs the policy decisions and legislation that affects the lives carers and the people they look after.

“It has been a huge privilege to work for Carers Wales and Carers UK. I have met amazing people who, as carers, contribute so much to their own families, to the wider community and still find time to campaign on behalf of and support other carers.

There have been huge changes since 1999 in the understanding about who carers are and the enormous contribution they make to the care and support of ill, frail and disabled family member.  However, far too many carers remain unsupported and struggle cope with immensely difficult circumstances. Action, not words, is what carers need.

Keith Bowen, who is currently Wales Manager for Contact a Family has been appointed the new Director.

Keith is currently the Chair of Wales Carers Alliance and will take up post on 4th March.  Keith has an excellent knowledge of carers issues and we look forward to welcoming him to Carers Wales.
