Carers Wales is pleased to announce that the charity has been awarded £249,831 for the next 3 years by the Big Lottery Fund.

This grant is to enable Carers Wales increase capacity to connect people, organisations and professionals together to better support carers across Wales. To achieve this, the award will be used to help prevent carer breakdown and isolation.

The award will also be used to recruit and train new volunteers and reach out to communities so their skills, knowledge and networks can be better utalised to support carers.

Carers Wales Director Claire Morgan said

"We are delighted to have received this award from the Big Lottery Fund.

Loneliness and isolation is one of the biggest issues facing carers in Wales with more and more people having to care for longer hours. This project will allow us to get into communities all across Wales and provide information so they don't have to feel alone. It will also allow Carers Wales to follow up on Carers Week's 'Carer Friendly Communities' campaign to encourage people, organisations and professionals to become more carer aware.

I'd also like to thank (former director) Keith Bowen, all of Carers Wales staff and Carers UK for all of their hard work in gaining this grant."

Further details on how Carers Wales plans to use this grant will be announced at a later date.
