Carer Involvement

06 October 2011

On the 21st September, the official launch took place of the Carmarthenshire Carers Forum.  The forum will provide carers with the opportunity to have their voices heard and raise issues that affect them to help inform policy in Carmarthenshire.  Pat McCarthy has worked closely with Joanne Silverthorne from the Carmarthenshire Carers Project to help establish the forum.

Pat has also been busy working with carers and local authorities across Wales providing free training for carers.  This has included assertiveness, confidence building, carer’s rights and issues etc.

The new Carers Strategies (Wales) Measure will place a requirement on Health and/or Social Services to consult with carers on the development of their local strategy.  This is a key part of the regulatory process that accompanies the Measure and prior to Ministers passing a strategy it is essential that they ensure that carers have been properly consulted.
