Carers legislation and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014

This full day course is aimed at participants who work in the Health and Social Care sector and who need to know about the legislation which relates to carers' legal rights.

Trainer:  Beth Evans/Keith Bowen
Audience: Professionals
Timing: 7 hours (9.30am to 4.30pm)

The course examines issues relating to carers, including explanations of how legislation and the need for carers' assessments impact on working practices.

  • The Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014
  • The Work and Families Act 2006
  • The Equality Act 2010

The course is delivered in a workshop format to encourage a high level of interaction and discussion of the issues and challenges for practitioners and carers.

A case study is presented in the form of a person who is, or has recently been a carer describing their life experiences as a carer, followed by questions from the participants.

At the end of the course the participants will:

  • know about current legislation relating to carers
  • know the importance of best practice in completing carers' assessments
  • have an understanding of the carer’s perspective.
  • have had an opportunity to develop a model of good practice for future work with carers and service users

Each participant receives a substantial information pack. Follow up contact with Carers Wales from participants is encouraged to support their future work with carers.
