Campaigns

Every year Carers Scotland has two main national campaigns - Carers Week and Carers Rights Day.

We also campaign for better support for carers during elections and in regular joint campaigns with other organisations.

Local Elections 2017

Carers Scotland, with our colleagues in the National Carer Organisations, have produced a Manifesto for Carers for the local council elections on the 4th of May 2017.  Local councils are responsible for providing much of the support carers and those they care for need and so these are important for carers.

The manifesto calls on all candidates in the local council elections to agree to:

  • Protect funding for carer support & ensure there are adequate resources to implement the Carers Act
  • Increase efforts to improve short breaks provision
  • Promote better, preventative support for carers of all ages
  • Improve financial support for carers
  • Support carers in and into employment

The Manifesto is intended to help carers and the organisations that support them in lobbying candidates and parties in their local area. We have also produced a campaign pack.  You can find out more and download the manifesto and campaign pack by clicking here.

Carers Week 2017

This year's Carers Week will be held between 12-18 June 2017.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the Scotland.  The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to organise activities and events throughout the Scotland, drawing attention to just how important caring is.

This year we're focusing on Building Carer Friendly Communities. Communities which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own.

Find out more about Carers Week and how you can pledge your support and get involved at www.carersweek.org.

Carers Rights Day

Carers Rights Day is held annual to raise awareness of carers rights and entitlements and to encourage carers to access support.  On this day we publish information and research including our annual rights guide for carers, Looking After Someone.  Read this year's guide by clicking here.

This year's Carers Rights Day will be held on 24 November 2017.
