Aims
The aim of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the role
advocacy can play in supporting unpaid carers. Advocacy can help service users make
clear their own views and wishes; express and present their views effectively and
faithfully; obtain independent advice and accurate information; negotiate and resolve
conflict.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:
1. Understand the purpose of advocacy
2. Demonstrate the key principles of advocacy as applied to unpaid carers
3. Determine and design a code of practice for advocates working with and for
unpaid carers
4. Understand the different advocacy models
5. Understand other forms of carer support
6. Locate appropriate advocacy services for unpaid carers
