Carers and Telehealthcare

The aim of these sessions is to provide participants with an understanding of the benefits of telecare for carers. Telecare is not a panacea however it is powerful and effective resource which can “support as many people as possible to live at home for as long as they want to, in comfort and safety, with the best possible health and quality of life.”

Duration: Half day/two hour session/induction resource (available in-house only)

Suitable for: Advisers, carers’ workers, social workers, care managers and health services staff, voluntary sector workers.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will at the end of this session understand:

  • Who carers are.
  • What is telehealthcare.
  • What the benefits of telecare for unpaid carers are.

Participants will also be presented with information on:

  • The background of carers.
  • The demographics of carers in Scotland.
  • The impacts of caring.
  • Carers’ assessments.
  • A digest of the Leeds University Research study.
  • Case study examples – including digital stories and interviews with users and carers

advocacy can play in supporting unpaid carers. Advocacy can help service users make
clear their own views and wishes; express and present their views effectively and
faithfully; obtain independent advice and accurate information; negotiate and resolve
conflict.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:
1. Understand the purpose of advocacy
2. Demonstrate the key principles of advocacy as applied to unpaid carers
3. Determine and design a code of practice for advocates working with and for
unpaid carers
4. Understand the different advocacy models
5. Understand other forms of carer support
6. Locate appropriate advocacy services for unpaid carers
