Carers Parliament – 1 October 2012 update

Thank you to everyone who applied to take part in the Carers Parliament.

Carers have now been selected by ballot to attend the Carers Parliament.  There will be carers from 70 of the 73 Scottish Parliamentary constituencies and, in the three parliamentary constituencies where there were no applicants, carers have been chosen from the regional constituency e.g. Mid Scotland and Fife.  The ballot was drawn by carers on the Parliament Steering Group.

Applications for the Parliament were oversubscribed and we were not been able to offer places to all of the carers who applied.  However, the Carers Parliament will be held again next year and, if you were unsuccessful this year, we would encourage you to apply for a place in future.

Carers who were successful in the ballot have now been contacted and we are in the process of following up those who have not yet confirmed.  We also selected a reserve list for each constituency and, where a successful carer is no longer able to attend, the next carer from this list will be offered a place.

We are also working with organisations who represent young carers and black and minority ethnic carers to ensure that carers from these groups are represented.

The Steering Group is also working on a programme and motion for the debate and themed workshops chosen by carers.

The Carers Parliament will include a Q&A panel of representatives from local and national government, health bodies and carers who will take questions from carers.   To enable carers who have been unsuccessful in the ballot or are unable to attend to be part of the event, we will be asking carers and carers groups to submit a question to the panel.

If you would like to submit a question, there are two ways you can do so:

  • Complete your question by clicking here.  (This will take you to a survey monkey questionnaire)
  • Submit a question with other carers, perhaps at a local group you attend and complete the form online

The Carers Parliament will be available to watch live online on the Scottish Parliament website at:. We will also produce a report of the day which will be available for download from this section of our website
