There are 207,000 carers in Northern Ireland - many of them are young people looking after a parent or other relative. Caring is part and parcel of life but without the right support the personal costs of caring can be high. At Carers UK we're passionate about making life better for carers and with your help we can transform carers' lives. Here's what caring means to Aoife....
Aoife's story
Aoife is 13 and lives in Belfast with her Mum and Dad. Her Mum works full time and so she has to help care for her dad who has a form of dementia. She says:
"Mum leaves the house before I do, so I look after dad in the morning before I go to school. I make his breakfast, write out lists for the day but when I'm at school I worry about him. Its funny really because when we're out we look like a normal family but the truth is different. There are two adults in my family, but it's my mum and me - my dad is the child we both need to look after"
Help us support people like Aoife
