Carers UK’s Chief Executive, Heléna Herklots, awarded CBE in Queen’s New Year’s Honours list

30 December 2016

Today (Friday, 30 December 2016), Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK was awarded a CBE in the 2017 Queen’s New Year’s Honours list in recognition of her work for carers.

Professor David Grayson CBE, Chairman of Carers UK, said,

“We are delighted that Heléna has been awarded a CBE, reflecting her determination and passion to seek change for carers to build a better life for them.   Every year over 2 million of us start caring for a relative or close friend, unpaid, because of disability, illness or frailty and life can be hard for many people doing what they feel is part and parcel of life in caring for loved ones.

Heléna’s award is a great achievement and we are proud of her and the recognition that this gives to carers’ issues.”

Heléna has led Carers UK since 2012, after working for 25 years on ageing and older people’s issues, from working with older people and their families in day centres and care homes, to campaigning for change, to developing and providing care and support services. Heléna’s personal experience and commitment to caring is at the heart of her approach, and she is a passionate advocate for the Carers UK vision of a society that respects, values and supports carers.

Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK said,

“It has been a privilege to have worked with so many inspiring and dedicated people throughout my career. I am deeply honoured to receive this award, and pay tribute to all those who I have worked with, who have supported and challenged me, and who have helped me to make a difference."
