Reach Connect Support: we’re going UK-wide
Carers UK's volunteering programme is expanding UK-wide thanks to a five-year grant, totalling £420,133, awarded in July 2016 from Big Lottery Fund through the Accelerating Ideas Fund. It is receiving support to further expand its reach and impact from Nesta.
Our grant award will help us continue to grow our volunteering programme and will provide the leverage we need to secure additional funding to support the work over the next five years. We are excited that the Big Lottery’s funding will help us to further expand its reach and impact across the UK. We would like to thank Nesta and the Cabinet Office for believing in us as this work would not have been possible without their initial two-year grant and their continued support.
Through this funding Carers UK aims to increase its reach and support to older people as they are identified as the fastest growing group of carers over the next five years, but will also extend support to working carers, local communities and increase our digital offer.
The grant will help us grow our volunteer numbers and reach so that we are better able to reach, connect and support carers throughout the UK. This funding follows a significant investment into the volunteering programme during 2014 – 2016, from Nesta and the Cabinet Office, and builds on the foundations of volunteering that stretch back over 50 years at Carers UK.
Background to funding
Nesta has received £5.48 million from the Big Lottery Fund to support eight innovations to mobilise people and communities across the UK to address the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. Nesta is the UK's innovation foundation. It helps people and organisations bring great ideas to life. It does this by providing investments and grants and mobilising research, networks and skills. It is an independent charity and its work is enabled by an endowment from the National Lottery. You can find more information on it here.
