Raising awareness in your local community
Many people who are looking after a family member or friend don't see themselves as a carer, and may be unaware that there is support available. We want everyone who is caring to know they can turn to Carers UK when they need advice, information and understanding.
Sign up as a Local Awareness Volunteer
You can help us get the message out this Carers Rights Day by signing up as a Local Awareness Volunteer.
Local Awareness Volunteer role has been designed to fit around you and your other commitments, so you can give a few hours back to your community without having to commit to a regular shift each week. It's a flexible role that you can do when it suits you, and involves getting out and about in your community to put carers in touch with vital services. You’ll help us to connect carers to support and information by arranging to put up posters or leave information leaflets in key places in your local community such as GP surgeries, supermarkets, libraries and gyms. And by giving your time you’ll have the great feeling that you’re doing something to change people’s lives, right on your own doorstep.
We’ll give you all the tools you need to get started – your Volunteering Pack will include a Volunteer Handbook plus tips and guidelines on getting out there for the first time. We’ll support you by making sure you’re kept up to date with everything that’s happening at Carers UK via our volunteer newsletter and you’ll also have exclusive access to The Hub – our online volunteering portal which connects you to volunteers across the whole of the UK. Why not join our team of over 500 volunteers and help make life better for carers this Carers Rights Day?
Already a Carers UK Volunteer?
On Carers Rights Day 2015, our volunteers distributed Carers Rights Guides to over 500 carers. Can you help us to reach even more carers this year and connect them with vital support?
If you’re already a Carers UK volunteer, we’ll be keeping you up to date with how you can get involved in this year’s Carers Rights Day. We’ll be in touch directly through our volunteer newsletter and we’ll also be offering plenty of information, resources and ways to get involved on The Hub – our one stop shop for all your Carers Rights Day needs. All resources, such as Carers Rights Guides, can be ordered by visiting The Hub resources section and filling in the order form and we’ll get them posted out to you in plenty of time for the big day. We’d love to know what you’re planning to do this year. Tell us and your fellow volunteers your plans by popping on to The Hub, registering on the events page and sharing your ideas on our Carers Rights Day 2016 discussion board. Please keep an eye on your email inbox too as we’ll be getting in touch soon with all the ways you can best represent Carers UK and make sure that no one misses out!
