It all started on the way to Wales...

13 July 2014

It all started when I saw the first ever Severn Bridge Half Marathon advertised when I was on my way to Wales to stay with my parents for the May bank holiday. Then a friend suggested we could run the Bournemouth Marathon together – a marathon and a half challenge!

It all started when I saw the first ever Severn Bridge Half Marathon advertised when I was on my way to Wales to stay with my parents for the bank holiday. I have done running event before, and decided to register because I fancied a change of scenery and wanted to experience the refreshing wind when going over the Severn Bridge as a runner rather than in the car. And why not raise money for Carers UK at the same time?

Then a friend suggested we could run the Bournemouth Marathon together so it all sort of happened in June – a marathon and a half challenge! I am hoping to raise awareness of Carers UK (including Carers Wales, as my challenge does have a Welsh slant), as well as some vital funds too. Fingers crossed, and also here is hoping for a sports massage too to ease away the stiffness!

I have six weeks until the Severn Bridge Half Marathon and ONLY 12 weeks to the Bournemouth Marathon – argh!

Having just got through a migraine this week I went out for a run this morning of unknown distance. My Garmin GPS running watch is broken and waiting for a repair, but I know roughly the route distance I ran, and think it's probably around half marathon distance. However, I need to sort out a proper programme because having been away for a few weeks I need to ramp up the miles and stamina for the full.

Somehow or other this weekend has also been full of school homework, kitchen planning and learning how to make loom bands – for which I am very proud, and grateful to You Tube as I can now keep up with the boys (eight and five years old)! Next stop is to learn how to do the stars! Although tonight it will be sewing seven badges onto Nathaniel's Beavers uniform...

Here is hoping for a good week of training, getting that training programme sorted and getting my Garmin watch fixed...
